Rotary Breakfast Speaker: Wayne Sticher
May 20, 2022 7:30 AM - 8:30 AM
Cycling Without Age is a not-for-profit charity that provides a community service by connecting those no longer able to ride for themselves with their community and the outdoors by giving them free rides on trishaw ebikes, piloted by volunteer cyclists.

Wayne Sticher, Community Captain for Cycling Without Age Gold Coast, will speak to us about what Cycling Without Age does.
Contact details  0411057691  wayne.sticher@cyclingwithoutage.org.au

As a keen touring cyclist, Wayne knows the pleasure of riding a bicycle, whether it’s a trip from the Gold Coast to Mount Isa or Mount Isa to Uluru across the top of the Simpson Desert.

Riding solo and unsupported gives you time to think. One thing which wouldn’t leave my mind was the Ted Talk I viewed prior to one of my rides about a guy in Denmark who commenced a charity which takes the elderly for a ride on trishaws.

image  With the same determination needed to survive in remote areas on a bicycle, Wayne set about commencing and building a Cycling Without Age Chapter on the Gold Coast. In just over two years, it became the largest Chapter in Australia and one of the largest in the world.

Cycling Without Age is a volunteer community group offering free Trishaw e-bike rides and rides to elderly, less-abled, socially isolated, or people who just want some company using bikes which carry wheelchairs.

Our aim is to provide reconnection to the community and environment. Guided by principles of generosity, slowness, relationships, storytelling, joy and dignity, our rides provide a memorable experience for all.
imageThe work has only just begun with many layers of benefit already having been discovered and the possibility of touching the lives of many people throughout many more areas.

Wayne,  a retired Fire Station Officer is also acting as the Consumer Advisor to the Queensland Tissue Bank Governance Committee, Brisbane. The core objective of the Committee is to ensure the Bank is acting true to its purpose of transforming people's lives through quality, compassionate and innovative tissue banking, and drive its vision of becoming Australia's premier tissue banking service.

The recipient of a cornea transplant, Wayne is also an avid supporter of the Prevent Blindness Foundation.

Jun 04, 2022 - Jun 08, 2022
On behalf of the Host Organization Committee, we cannot wait to welcome Rotarians and guests to Houston and the great State of Texas for the 2022 Rotary International Convention.  The saying goes that everything is “Bigger”, “Better” and “Friendlier” in Texas, and the goal of the Houston Host Organization Committee is to have each of you feel that every moment as our guest while in Houston! From the humble beginnings of this great city, Houston has been led by “People of Action” who have taken this City to great heights including, to the moon and back.

Radio Lollipop believes in the healing power of play – providing smiles and laughter to children at a time when they need it most.

One in four children are admitted to a hospital before reaching age 14.

Though some patients are short-stay, many have a recurring need for care and return repeatedly to hospital. Some who are terminally ill spend much of their short lives in hospital.

Radio Lollipop gives young patients a voice and a choice during their stay. While they can´t say “no” to taking their medicine or receiving treatment, they can request their favourite songs, win prizes and hear their own voices on the radio. Those activities give youngsters a haven of normality in the hospital day which in other respects is strange, different and often scary.
